BOOK OF THE MONTH: MARCH

Dear FictionAddicts,

Say hello to March.  It's so hot these days it feels like we are in a oven baking. I really can't wait for the rains and heavy downpours.

I’m sure you had as much pleasant time as I did reading the last two books of the month. This month we will read The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman and The Wives by Tarryn Fisher.

The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman

Nina Hill is a young woman supremely confident in her own... shell. The only child of a single mother, Nina has her life just as she wants it: a job in a bookstore, a kick-butt trivia team, a world-class planner and a cat named Phil. If she sometimes suspects there might be more to life than reading she just shrugs and picks up a new book.

When the father she never knew existed suddenly dies, leaving behind innumerable sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews , Nina is horrified. They all live close by! They’re all or mostly all excited to meet her! She’’ll have to Speak. To. Strangers. It’s a disaster!

And as if that wasn’t enough, Tom, her Trivia nemesis, has turned out to be cute, funny, and deeply interested in getting to know her. Doesn’t he realize what a terrible idea that is?

Nina considers her options.
  1. Completely change her name and appearance (Too drastic, plus she like her hair).
  2.  Flee to a deserted island. (Hard pass, see: coffee).
  3.   Hide in a corner of her apartment and rock back and forth (Already doing it).

It’s time for Nina to come out of her comfortable shell, but she isn’t convinced real life could ever live up to fiction. It’s going to take her brand-new family, a persistent suitor, and the combined effects of ice cream and trivia to make turn her own fresh page.

Quotes from The Bookish Life of Nina Hill
  •         “If you're not scared, you’re not brave”.
  •     Do you know the best feeling in the world?” “Uh…” Nina shook her head, despite having some ideas. Liz glowed. “ It’s reading a book, loving every second of it, then turning to the front and discovering that the writer wrote fourteen zillion others.
  • "Tomorrow would be better. At the very least, tomorrow would be different”.
  •    Then don’t borrow trouble from tomorrow, baby. Don’t worry about how it might go wrong, just let yourself be happy.

The Wives by Tarryn Fisher

Imagine that your husband has two other wives.

You’ve never met  the other wives. None of you know each other, and because  of this unconventional arrangement, you can see your husband only one day a week. But you love him so much that you don’t care. Or at least that’s what you’ve told yourself.

But one day, while you’re doing laundry, you find a scrap of paper in his pocket- an appointment reminder for a woman named Hannah, and you just know it’s another of the wives.

You thought you were fine with your arrangement, but you can’t help yourself: you track her down and, under false pretenses you strike up a friendship. Hannah has no idea who you really are.

Then Hannah starts showing up to your coffee dates with telltale bruises, and you realize she’s being abused by your husband. But you’ve never known him to be violent, ever.

Who actually is your husband, and how far would you  go to find the truth? Would you risk your own life?

And who is his mysterious third wife?

That’s all folks. Get to it and remember to take every precaution to  protect yourself from the corona virus.

Love, kisses and cupcakes

BOOK OF THE MONTH: NOVEMBER 2018

Dear FictionAddicts, Can you really believe it is November, the month of Thanksgiving and the month before Christmas?   It’s almost as if New Year’s Day was just yesterday and I closed my eyes and opened them and now it’s November. How time flies! As you would have noticed, there was no post in October. I’m so sorry about that. Work so sooo hectic and as much as tried I just could not find time to write. Some day I’ll be my own boss and do the things I love when I want to. This November, we’ll read The Hate U Give (now in Cinemas but it might be better if you read it before seeing the movie) and The Sudden Departure of The Frasers The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas: Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood bes...

Time keeps sneaking up on us. The book of the month for February is Me before You (Jojo Moyes).  Me before you is the story of William Traynor, who got involved in an accident  which left him confined to a wheelchair. He lived life on the fast lane and had everything going for him until the accident ruined his life. Lou Clark is the girl with no ambitions in life who is employed by the Traynors to take care of their son, Will. But even the chatty Lou could only do so much tor him. She would later learn that he had once attempted taking his own life and her real purpose of supposedly taking care of him was to ensure that he never attempts it again.....
