BOOK OF THE MONTH: NOVEMBER 2018

Dear FictionAddicts,

Can you really believe it is November, the month of Thanksgiving and the month before Christmas?  It’s almost as if New Year’s Day was just yesterday and I closed my eyes and opened them and now it’s November. How time flies!

As you would have noticed, there was no post in October. I’m so sorry about that. Work so sooo hectic and as much as tried I just could not find time to write. Some day I’ll be my own boss and do the things I love when I want to.

This November, we’ll read The Hate U Give (now in Cinemas but it might be better if you read it before seeing the movie) and The Sudden Departure of The Frasers

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas:

Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil, at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed.

Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr.
But what Starr does -or does not say upend her community. It could also endanger her life.

The Sudden Departure of The Frasers by Louise Candlish

Welcome to Lime Park Road. A picture-perfect street with a street at its heart.

When Joe and Christy Davenport step behind the Oxford Blue painted door of their “forever” home, they believe their dreams have come true.
Yet the boxes aren’t even unpacked before a series of events leads Christy to become obsessed with the previous occupant, the glamourous, enigmatic Amber Fraser, whose departure from Lime Park is shrouded in mystery.
What happened to her? And why are Joe and Christy’s attempts at friendship with neighbors met with an unnerving silence?

As Christy unravels the shocking truth about the Frasers and the place she now calls home, she discovers that behind the closed doors of even the most desirable postcodes, terrible secrets lurk.

Time keeps sneaking up on us. The book of the month for February is Me before You (Jojo Moyes).  Me before you is the story of William Traynor, who got involved in an accident  which left him confined to a wheelchair. He lived life on the fast lane and had everything going for him until the accident ruined his life. Lou Clark is the girl with no ambitions in life who is employed by the Traynors to take care of their son, Will. But even the chatty Lou could only do so much tor him. She would later learn that he had once attempted taking his own life and her real purpose of supposedly taking care of him was to ensure that he never attempts it again..... Well, I don't think there'll be any dry eyes in the house by the time we are done and dusted with, Me before You. ...
