BOOK OF THE MONTH: APRIL 2020

Dear FictionAddicts,

We had great expectations at the beginning of this year, lots of aspirations, goals and targets. Many of us had set the ball in motion towards the attainment of unhindered success.  But nothing could have ever prepared us for this. The novel Covid-19 has brought to the world to a stand still. Cities all over the world are on lockdown. The world is silent. Stadiums are empty ( with the exception of those been used as makeshift hospitals), places of worship are empty, offices have become a shadow of themselves. The news of the death toll is grim and depressing as there is a daily increase in leaps and bounds in the number of deaths globally. These indeed are difficult times.

The medical professionals are at this time under so much pressure to bring the pandemic under control. We have been advised to stay in doors, wash our hands regularly, and observe social distance by maintaining a distance of 3 meters from the next person in order to contain the spread.

Staying in doors daily for an extended period of time is quite challenging. Lots of people are finding it really though. But as readers and lovers of fiction it might be one of the best things to happen to us. We now have unlimited time available on our hands to do as we please and we choose to decimate the never abating TO BE READ pile of books.

WHO ARE WE ?! FICTIONADDICTS!!!! WHAT DO WE DO IN A LOCKDOWN?! WE READ! READD!! READDDD!!!

This month we will read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid and The First Mistake by Sandie Jones.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one in the journalism community is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now? Monique is not exactly on top of her world. Her husband, David, has left her and her career stagnated. Regardless of why Evelyn has chosen her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jump start her career.
Summoned to Evelyn’s Upper East Side apartment, Monique listens as Eveyln unfurls her story: from making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the late 80s, and of course, the seven husbands along the way. As Evelyn’s life unfolds revealing a ruthless ambition, an    unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love, Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the actress. But as Evelyn's story catches up with the present it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic      and irreversible ways.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the novel is being scripted for the small screen by Taylor Jenkins Reid to be produced by Ilene Chaiken and Jennifer Beals

BOOK OF THE MONTH: August 2018

Fiction addicts get in here! Hellooo its AUGUST and I have a confession to make. You see, I’ve been   putting the books on out here from month to month but I only just caught up with the books of the month this July. What I mean is that I post of the books of the month but I don’t actually read the book of the month. I actually read the books of the last month.   Can you imagine that? Well that’s what happens when life gets in the way of my reading.   I had to read three books from previous posts this July just to catch up. I pushed myself hard. Now that my confession is out of the way, I feel relieved. I trust we were pleased with An American Marriage and The Girl on the Train . I get the feeling that An American Marriage will be made into a TV series or movie. It was a very nice read with so many likeable quotes. This month we will read, The Woman in the Window and Little Fires Everywhere The Woman in the Window by A.J Finn: Anna Fox lives alone – a recluse in
