Fiction addicts get in here!
Hellooo its AUGUST and I have a confession to
make. You see, I’ve been putting the
books on out here from month to month but I only just caught up with the books
of the month this July. What I mean is that I post of the books of the month
but I don’t actually read the book of the month. I actually read the books of
the last month. Can you imagine that?
Well that’s what happens when life gets in the way of my reading. I had to read three books from previous posts this
July just to catch up. I pushed myself hard.
Now that my confession is out of the way, I
feel relieved. I trust we were pleased with An American Marriage and The
Girl on the Train. I get the feeling that An American Marriage will be made
into a TV series or movie. It was a very nice read with so many likeable
quotes.
This
month we will read, The Woman in the
Window and Little Fires Everywhere
The Woman in
the Window
by A.J Finn: Anna Fox lives alone – a recluse in her New York city home, unable
to venture outside. She spends her day drinking (maybe too much), watching old
movies, recalling happier times… and spying on her neighbours.
Then the Russells move into the house across
the way: a father, a mother, their teenage son. The perfect family. But when
Anna, gazing out her window one night sees something she shouldn’t her world
begins to crumble – and its shocking secrets are laid bare.
What is real? What is imagined? Who is in
danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one – and
nothing – is what it seems.

In
Shaaker Heights, a placid, progressive suburb of Cleveland, everything – is planned
– from the layout of the winding roads, to the colors of the houses, to the
successful lives its residents will go on to lead. And no one embodies this
spirit more than Elena Richardson, whose guiding principle is playing by the rules.
Enter
Mia Warren – an enigmatic artist and single mother – who arrives in this
idyllic bubble with her teenage daughter Pearl, and rents a house from the
Richardsons. Soon Mia and Pearl become more than tenants: all four Richardson
children are drawn to the mother-daughter pair. But Mia carries with her a mysterious past and a disregard for the
status quo that threatens to upend this carefully ordered community.
When
old family friends of the Richardsons attempt to adopt a Chinese-American baby,
a custody battle erupts that dramatically divides the town – and puts Mia and
Elena on opposing sides. Suspicious of Mia’s past and her motives, Elena is
determined to uncover the secrets in Mia’s past . But her obsession will come
at unexpected and devastating costs.
