Is the book better than the movie?

ello booklovers!!! I
know it’s been a minute. I’m really sorry for having left y’all in the lurch
since the last post. Don’t mind this job of mine that won’t let me do what I
like, when I please😞. I have to stick up with it because for now it pays the bills.
One of these days sha, I will sack my
employer.*Looks around to make sure no one is reading this*.
Today, I want to take
some time out to write about books that have been made into movies. You know,
an author writes a book, fiction novel, and then a director/ producer in
Hollywood decides to adapt it to something for the screen for example, a movie
or a TV series. Yeah, that kind of thing. So many movies and TV series we
know today are adaptations of fiction novels. The guys over at Hollywood work
hard but the book is always better than the movie. You can quote me on that.
Come along now as we journey into the world of books turned movies/ TV series.

Under
the dome by Stephen King published in 2009 and made a TV
series in 2013 by Brian K. Vaughan. When I learnt that the novel had been
adapted for a TV series I thought to myself, it can only be a miniseries. The
reason for this thought is that everything that happened in the novel spanned
less than one month. However, the TV series which went by the same title as the
novel ran for three seasons and each season had 13 episodes. Well, the TV
version of Under the dome, varied considerably from the book version, as even
the author admitted. So if you were hoping to give spoilers based on what you
had read in the book, you were in for a horribly rude shock.

This is a book I only
just read in 2014 (Sixty years after it was first published). I am
Legend is a horror fiction novel by
Richard Matheson, published in 1954. There have been a few film adaptations of
the novel - The Last Man on Earth in 1964, as The
Omega Man in 1971, and as I Am Legend in 2007. In 2012, the Horror Writers Association, named
it vampire novel of the century. Let me
be frank upfront, I enjoyed the novel as much as I enjoyed the 2007 movie adaptation
of the book. The slight variation in the plot of the movie and the book in my
opinion stems from technological advancement in terms of scientific research
and development.

The Devil Wears Prada by
Lauren Weisberger published in 2003 was adapted for the screen in 2006. I
first saw the movie and then read the book many years later, so I was always in
the know of what would happen next. Overall, the book was way more interesting
and entertaining than the movie. There is a sequel to the book which I have
read. It is guaranteed to dispel all feelings of insufficiency anyone might
have had about the first book. It is titled Revenge Wears Prada. You can thank me later for this one.

Next is Angels and
Demons authored by Dan Brown.
This novel is about the conflicts between science and religion. It uses a lot
of symbols. A suspense thriller in which Professor Robert Langdon is invited
to investigate a murder but is suddenly caught in the conspiracy of the
Catholic Church obviously incited by the Bavarian Iluminati. I had seen the
movie twice before reading the book, making it a bit difficult to say which is
much better. I’ll let you guys decide on this one.

Inferno also by Dan Brown
published in 2013 and was adapted to a movie of the same title in October,
2016. The novel had me captive from the very beginning to the end. It was what
fiction addicts call #unputdownable. The plot was absolutely fabulous,
intriguing and exciting all at the same time. Thumbs up to the director and
producers of the movie. They did a very good job of maintaining most of the
writer’s plot. With the exception of resolution which is very different from
the way the book ended, all’s well that ends well. Fortunately, Dan Brown is
cool with the differences in the resolution.
Keep reading folks!
Ps: TGIF!!!! Time to bury my head in a nice novel. Tada
